ACOUSTIC, DIGITAL, AND HYBRID PIANOS EXPLAINED

Acoustic Piano with headphones on keyboard

At Coach House Pianos our mission is to engage more people in music-making, and we understand that everyone has different needs when it comes to choosing a piano.

We offer a range of digital, hybrid, and acoustic pianos and in this blog, we will explain the differences between these three piano types.

Digital Pianos

Digital pianos are compact, reasonably priced and can be a great place to begin your piano journey.

A digital piano is portable and offers changing sound effects, volume control, and the ability to listen through headphones.

As well as this, digital pianos also feature a simulated weighted key action to give you a good idea of how a piano feels to play.

Hybrid Pianos

Hybrid pianos offer all the advantages of a digital piano, with the addition of a built-in piano action to give the simulation of playing a real acoustic piano.

Hybrids offer a high level of sound production and sound sampling and are more similar to an acoustic piano in appearance than a digital piano.

Acoustic Pianos

An acoustic piano is the real deal, with the action, strings and soundboard all giving the instrument a wonderful natural resonance.

An acoustic piano is longer lasting, and therefore a better investment as the technology is not changing as it is in digital and hybrid models.

An additional feature that can be added to a traditional acoustic piano is the silent system. This is non-invasive to the instrument, with a simple bar that stops the hammer hitting the string just a millimetre before it would do so. There are also sensors under the keys that translate the sound into a digital sound that can be heard through headphones.

An acoustic piano with a fitted silent system is the ideal solution if you would like an acoustic piano, but you need a quiet instrument due to the space you play in.
