What do you do at Coach House?

I repair all digital and electronic products, as well as being responsible for all organ sales.

What do you like about working at Coach House?

What’s not to like!? There is such a positive working environment, phenomenal management and an incredible dynamic within the team. This company is the epitome of honesty and integrity. It’s such a good place to work, I chose to come here over early retirement!

    What’s your background?

I studied electronics design at university in Las Vegas and went on to work as an Audio-Visual Engineer for some of the best casinos and hotels in Las Vegas. It was a great job and meant I got to see performances from some of the greats, such as Sammy Davis Jr. I later returned to my native Wales, discovered Coach House, and haven’t looked back. As well as working for Coach House directly as their Digital Products Engineer, I also run Viscount Organs Wales, which partners with Coach House to promote and sell Italian digital organs.

  • David Halford

    Education Business Manager

    Basic details:
    • Name: David Halford
    • Company Role: Education Business Manager
What do you do at Coach House?

In my role I focus on working closely with schools across all areas of the education sector, identifying specific requirements for musical instruments and equipment, and providing the best possible solutions for improving and upgrading facilities in music departments.

What do you like about working at Coach House?

Coach House is a family owned business that is constantly striving for excellence and perfection in everything it does. I fully endorse the company mission ‘to support and engage more people in music making’.

    What’s your background?

After graduating from University with a degree in music, I stumbled into the world of piano and musical instrument sales, and apart from a couple of attempts to pursue other things, have stayed in this industry ever since. I have had the privilege of working for many of the world’s greatest manufacturers including Yamaha, Steinway & Sons and Bösendorfer.

I have always been an active musician and have played in many bands, orchestras and chamber groups.

    What motivates you?

Being part of a great team that works together to achieve the best outcomes and always strives for excellence.

Who are your favourite music artists right now?

I have the broadest and most eclectic taste in music of anyone I know. I will always listen to and study the music of J.S. Bach. Even when you think you really know one of his works inside out, there is always something more to discover. The Igor Levit recording of the Goldberg Variations is perfection. The band I never tire of, and find the most musically inspirational and creative, is Radiohead. My guilty pleasure right now is a band called The Wombats

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

My family are the most precious thing I have, and I enjoy their company and achievements above all else. I have accepted and embraced my role as taxi driver for my 2 teenage girls and their friends over the last few years, but look forward to weekends (whenever that will be) when my time is not governed by dance lessons, piano lessons, netball matches, and endless parties. Beyond this I like to keep very fit by running, cycling and playing squash, deluding myself that I can delay the onset of age. The other way I try to stall the advancing years is to continue pursuing my ambition of being a rock and roll star. I play in a moderately successful (albeit at a local level) indie-pop covers band. Seeing a group of around 40 teenagers moshing to Abba’s Mamma Mia at a local festival we played at recently, was a truly surreal, but immensely satisfying experience.

Working with a great team of dedicated individuals who inspire and motivate one another to always ‘push the bar’ higher – sharing success with the team is always very enthusing.

    What’s your background?

Having spent time during school holidays as a teenager working in the workshops of the family company, I was eager to get 6th form behind me and into the real world of work as quickly as possible! I spent my first few months of official employment in the workshop, learning and understanding the painstaking processes our technicians take each piano through prior to sale. With the continual acquisition of more customers, I then joined the sales team, also supporting them with marketing material before progressing to solely focus on looking after our education customers. Whilst fulfilling the role of Education Business Consultant, I completed a comprehensive Business Management course which set me up for the role I have today as General Manager, which I have overseen since 2017.

    What motivates you?

The number one motivator has to be the feedback and positive reviews we constantly receive from our customers who extol the virtues of dealing with Coach House. I also love seeing the fruit of hard work in the form of results – a project delivered successfully is very enthusing.

Who are your favourite music artists right now?

This is a difficult one to answer as we cannot forget the incredible composers and musicians there have been over the past two centuries who have no doubt been key to inspiring today’s musicians! I have to say that I am fond of The Jonas Brothers – they are great musicians and given that there are three of them working together to produce fantastic music, it seems to have a synergy with Coach House, given we currently have two generations working together, each with three brothers!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

Exploring the stunning scenery that we are so fortunate to be surrounded by, especially unwinding at the Gower and Pembrokeshire beaches with a BBQ and paddleboard on tow! I enjoy spending time with my wife, our relatives and socialising with friends, especially when it involves outdoor cooking and dining.
