Yamaha S6X Grand Piano

This new Yamaha S6X Polished Ebony Grand Piano forms part of Yamaha’s premium SX Series. At 212cm, or 7 Feet, it offers substantial proportions while remaining well suited to recital rooms and smaller performance venues. Yamaha developed the SX Series to combine traditional piano craftsmanship with technologies intended to increase warmth, depth, clarity and expressive range. The S6X uses Yamaha’s Acoustic Resonance Enhancement treatment within its rims, helping the wood develop a more mature resonant character. Yamaha also uses rim materials more than 30% thicker than those in the previous S Series, with fewer glue layers. This construction strengthens the bass and middle registers while preserving the warm, inviting tonal character associated with the SX Series.

The S6X also features exclusive hammer felt developed specifically for the range. Its elasticity helps produce clear tonal colours and a balanced response from bass through to treble. Yamaha strengthens the back frame with beams around 20% thicker than those used in the previous S Series. This provides a more rigid foundation and helps the piano respond efficiently during powerful playing.

For the soundboard, Yamaha uses specifically selected European spruce and construction techniques developed for its flagship CFX concert grand. These techniques govern how the soundboard, ribs, and bridge work together, supporting strong projection and a broad range of tonal colour. Yamaha craftsmen also hand-wind the bass strings, carefully balancing tension to encourage rich resonance and well-integrated overtones.

Tonally, the S6X combines clarity with warmth, richness and considerable expressive potential. Its 212cm scale gives pianists ample scope to explore intimate lyrical passages, broad dynamic contrasts, and more commanding repertoire. Yamaha specifically positions the S6X for recital rooms, where its balance of projection and refinement can serve both performer and audience. The S6x measures 154cm wide, 102cm high, and 212cm long, with a weight of 390kg.
