Kawai GL-50 Grand Piano – c2022

This Kawai GL-50 grand piano was built in Japan in 2022 and comes in the highly desirable polished black cabinet. As one of the larger models in Kawai’s respected GL Series, it combines impressive tonal depth with the precision and reliability that have earned Kawai a worldwide reputation. Its scale, musical character, and responsive touch make it an excellent choice for serious pianists, advanced students, and teaching professionals.

At 188 cm in length, the GL-50 offers a substantial step up from a smaller baby grand. The longer strings and larger soundboard produce greater tonal breadth, dynamic range, and projection. As a result, the piano delivers a richer and more rewarding playing experience while remaining practical for a home, teaching studio, or smaller performance space.

The original owner purchased this piano new and enjoyed it as both a passionate pianist and an accomplished piano teacher at Westminster School. They recently selected a handcrafted Shigeru Kawai SK-2 from Coach House Pianos, demonstrating their continued confidence in the Kawai brand. Their ownership also provides a reassuring musical pedigree for this instrument.

Musical description:

Tonally, this GL-50 impresses with its balance, warmth, and clarity. The bass delivers depth and authority without overwhelming the instrument. The middle register brings colour, warmth, and expression, while the treble remains clear, articulate, and singing. Together, these qualities create a versatile piano that responds beautifully to a wide range of repertoire and playing styles.

The action feels precise, responsive, and highly controllable. Players can shape phrases confidently, explore subtle tonal colours, and maintain control across the full dynamic range. The touch feels connected and predictable, encouraging both technical development and expressive playing.

As a modern Japanese-built grand piano with one careful owner from new, this GL-50 offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a serious musical instrument in outstanding condition. It suits accomplished pianists, committed students, professional teachers, and anyone seeking a dependable grand piano with genuine musical substance.
