Central to its character is Bösendorfer’s unique approach to construction. Much like a violin, the entire body of the instrument, not just the soundboard, supports formation. At the heart of the rim is a specially grooved 10mm quarter-sawn spruce element, carefully bent by a skilled craftsman to form the inner rim. As the piano is played, these integrated spruce components become acoustically active, creating a complete resonating body that allows the instrument to project sound with exceptional richness and tonal colour, reflecting the long-standing Viennese tradition of piano making.

Further refinements highlight the meticulous craftsmanship found throughout the instrument. Each string is individually attached with a handmade loop to enhance tuning stability and simplify servicing. The bass strings are spun in Bösendorfer’s distinctive manner, with a steel core wound in one or two layers of copper to produce the warm, sonorous bass for which the maker is renowned. In the upper register, a detachable and independent Capo d’Astro bar allows extremely precise adjustment, helping preserve the original Bösendorfer sound for generations. An open pinblock, constructed from cross-grained layers of quarter-sawn maple set on a base of red beech and finished with a walnut veneer, provides a stable foundation for the tuning pins and strings, ensuring lasting reliability and performance.
