Steinway Boston 156 Grand Piano – c2009

This Steinway Boston GP-156 grand piano was built in Japan in circa 2009 and finished in the highly popular polished black cabinet. Designed by Steinway & Sons, the GP-156 combines compact proportions with a remarkably mature musical character, offering a balanced, medium-mellow tone with warmth, clarity and an attractive sparkle through the treble.

At 156cm in length, the GP-156 is often referred to as the “Miracle Piano”, reflecting the scale of sound it is capable of producing from a relatively compact grand piano. Its distinctive patented wide-tail design allows for longer bass strings and a larger soundboard area than might ordinarily be expected from an instrument of this size. The result is a rich, resonant sound with impressive depth and power, while retaining the practicality that makes the GP-156 particularly well suited to the home.

This piano was originally supplied new by ourselves and has been carefully prepared and set up in our workshops by our in-house Steinway technicians.

Acoustically, this is a beautifully balanced piano with a warm, rounded character that retains good definition throughout the registers. The treble has a lovely clarity and sparkle, bringing freshness to melodic lines without becoming overly bright, while the overall medium-mellow voice gives the piano an inviting and versatile character. It is particularly enjoyable for the home pianist and would also make an excellent accompaniment instrument for singers, where warmth and clarity need to work together without overpowering the voice.

The carefully prepared action offers a responsive and controlled touch throughout, allowing the pianist to shape phrasing and dynamics with confidence. Combined with the GP-156’s tonal warmth and clarity, this makes it an enjoyable instrument for both everyday playing and more focused musical work. To preserve the piano’s pristine finish, a protective film has been applied to selected areas of the piano to maintain its condition until delivery.
